Environmental Organizations: Strategies for the 1990's

The leaders of environmental groups and advocates of quality of life through environmental sustainability will present their views on effective strategies for the coming decade. Discussions will include consideration of policy issues, autonomy and cooperation, education and information, and citizen and interest-based action.

Environmentalism in the Neighbourhood and the Community

The panel will discuss citizen strategies for environmental problems arising both within and from outside their neighbourhood community. Constituency building, issues definition and the development of resident expertise, political activism, coalition-building and networking, and organizing for persistence are a few of the topics this session will consider.

The Integration of Environment and Economy: Dilemma or Opportunity?

Representatives of Canadian business and environmental organizations will discuss the opportunities and problems of various business-environmentalist relationships, with particular reference to the federal and provincial "round tables", environmental endorsements of consumer products, and corporate strategies for environmental protection.

Environment , Development and Peace

Panelists will discuss ways in which the environmental and peace movements share concerns, the ways in which each can learn from the others' efforts to promote change, and strategies for cooperative action. The discussion will consider not only action in the developing world, but strategies for citizens and organizations in the industrialized world.
