This section and the following one Description of Hierarchy That Exists Within Huron Park Environmental Area will explicitly identify and define an integrated monitoring approach for assessing the integrity of the Huron Park Environmental Area. Each level represents the extent of observation; the hierarchy. Within each of these levels are descriptions of the grain of extent, organized by the A, B, C, and E organizing principle described earlier.

This will be used to describe the important characteristics and processes that operate at each hierarchical level. At the upper hierarchical levels (described in this section), the abiotic factors are most important. From these perspectives, the influences on the Park, from the upper levels, can be identified. At the lower levels within the Park, more specific factors such as energetics and individuals are important. These perspectives provide a more comprehensive description of the system within the Park, leading to an indication of the level of integrity of the system .
